A crowd of crocuses (and a few other flowers)

Finally, the crocuses I planted in a fit of positivity last autumn are looking lovely. They were a bit of an impulse buy, if I'm honest, but I thought they would give a lovely splash of colour to the garden.  I have been watching and waiting, and they did feature in a post not that long ago.
Once the sun shone on them though, what a difference!  Splash of colour was right and I'm really enjoying the bright and cheerful flowers.
I bought a random mix of bulbs and there are some pretty purple striped ones included.
They have the most intricate markings.
Other plants are looking good too - the hyacinths Chris bought me way back in February have been flowering for a long time and provide a wonderful contrast to the yellow crocuses.  My sister gave me the anemone blanda in front and that has been enjoying the sun too.
I spied this grape hyacinth peeking out of a pot today.  It is my favourite variety, muscari latifolium, with a graduation of colour in the flower when it opens properly.  The promise of things to come - I love this time of year!

  1. Your crocuses are lovely, I do wish I'd planted some now. Now the snow has gone my tulips are starting to look promising - finally, something is happening in the garden! x

    1. Dear Gillian
Thank you. I planted the crocuses in pots last autumn and am really pleased I did now. I put a few in the borders, but they haven't done as well. My tulips are also starting to come through (also planted in pots) and I am really hoping for some warmer temperatures, (or just that vicious cold wind to go) so that I can be out in the garden a bit more.

  2. What a beautiful sight, all those pretty flowers in pots!
Over here the weather forecast promised warmer days ahead, so maybe spring will finally arrive...

    1. Dear Mirjam
Thank you - the weather people have told us that warmer weather is on the way this weekend and into next week. I think we are all ready for Spring to arrive properly. The crocuses have cheered me up in the meantime though.

  3. I wish I had had the foresight to plant up some colour in pots. All I have is my Wallflowers that have been blooming since October, some acid green Hellebores, a few Violets and five tiny trumpets of Daffodils.

Thank you - I am pleased I bought and planted the crocuses last autumn, now that I am enjoying their colour. One benefit to the cold weather is that plants are staying in flower for much longer than usual. I don't normally have snowdrops still in flower in April! I think your collection of plants in flower sounds lovely. Anything flowering in late Winter/early Spring is particularly welcome.

  4. Hi Ellie, your crocus are gorgeous. Ours have come out in force this last couple of days but definitely no sign of our muscari flowering yet!

Thank you. I did have to look hard for the muscari flower - it was one that I had planted in a pot but had forgotten about. Apparently we are getting milder temperatures but more unsettled weather this weekend - April showers I think - I am looking forward to getting out in the garden a bit.

My garden is still pretty much bereft of blooms :(

    1. Dear Annie
Thank you. I don't have that much flowering in the borders but hopefully, with milder air on the way, we'll see a big difference over the next couple of weeks. I do hope so, anyway!
