Beautiful colours

The beautiful sunny weather we have been enjoying over this last week has been a real bonus.  Look at this Mediterranean blue sky, against which the Magnolia leaves shine.
The delicate pink petals of a cyclamen hederifolium with its silvery green leaves.  This was a real bonus as I haven't any cyclamen in the borders now, but I noticed this little one in a pot.  Nature can be so generous.
Bright, happy and fabulous shades of pink cosmos.  This is a recent favourite of mine and I would like to grow much more next year.   I am intending to grow lots of other annuals next year and am really hoping for a riot of colour (as well as nectar and pollen for insects).
Aster 'Little Carlow' I think, and it is a mass of pale lilac, elegant daisy flowers.
I couldn't resist another shot of zingy colour - it may not be to everyone's taste, but I love it!  I am hoping we'll be lucky enough to enjoy more of the early autumn sun to keep these colours going a bit longer. (I know, I'm just greedy!)

  1. Hello Ellie, I love cosmos, they are my second favourite flower, after crocosmia, but the ones I grew from seed this year were quite disappointing, I'm not sure why. Yours look lovely.

  2. Thank you, Joy. I'm sorry to hear your cosmos were disappointing this year. These are 'Sonata', I think. They took a while to get going but I was late sowing anyway, due to the cold weather. These were planted into a terracotta pot - I think I put six, but I broke one stem (oops).
I hope you'll get more success next year. That's one of the great things about gardening; there's always next year!

    1. Thanks, Chrissie. Indeed they are - they make me smile when I wander down the garden. My roses are having a repeat flowering too, so there is lots of pink at the moment. This is a lovely time of year.

    1. Dear Anne
Thank you. I can recommend the cosmos - very easy to grow (started off on my window sill, potted on and then planted out around June) and you can get them in beautiful jewel-like colours. The photo above is of five plants in a pot. How about giving them a try next year?

  7. What a gorgeous garden you have Ellie. I too love Cosmos, hence the name for my blog and I don't think I will ever have enough of it in the garden. The bees and butterflies love it, so I think it makes a great addition to any garden. I bought some cyclamen today and look forward to planting them, they are so pretty. Looking forward to seeing your stitching and thank you for your sweet comment over at mine, you are a sweetie! Hope you have a really lovely week xoxo

    1. Dear Hannapat
Thank you. My garden is only small, but I try to pack it full of plants and when they are flowering well, it really makes me happy. I have only discovered cosmos in the last two years and absolutely love it and it will always be something I include in the garden now. I am hoping to get my planting done tomorrow (daffodils and anemone blanda), as long as I don't get sidetracked with something else!
      Have a great week too.
      Best wishes
