Stitching Sundays - 3

Week three of Stitching Sundays and not a huge amount of progress this week, due to doing lots of other things instead - oops!  However, I have managed to add a few more leaves to the bare branches.
I'm not quite sure about the falling leaves - I do want some falling ones and some already on the ground and turning brown, but I am uncertain whether these particular ones look quite right.
I also need to decide whether to add more to the tree trunk and am thinking that it might look nice with some bark patterns.  I have also decided what to do with it when it is finished.  I have a 'seasonal tree' decoration which Chris made and it looked lovely at Easter because I made lots of flowers to hang from it.  However, since then it hasn't had a lot of decorations on it and has looked a bit sad.  I am thinking of making this into an autumn decoration and hanging it on the central part of the tree (I think it will be too big to be on the branch).  However, if it doesn't look right, I am sure I can find another home for it - hanging on a door handle, perhaps?  We shall see.  I'll try to make more progress for next week.

  1. I love the falling leaves, Ellie! Sometimes I add something then doubt whether it works - so I put it down for a bit and look at it with fresh eyes. I think if you add some texture to the tree and finish the rest of the leaves, all will come together beautifully. Interesting idea for what to do with it, too! Chrissie x

    1. Thanks, Chrissie. I have just done exactly what you do; then picked it up again to add some more red leaves and more falling ones. Texture on the tree will work well too, I think - it is a bit bare at the moment. When the whole thing is finished, I'll post about it, of course.

  2. Hi Ellie, I love your tree and I think it looks great. I also think that the falling leaves will look wonderful and makes it very autumnal, which is quite special as you are stitching it now, so something to remember it by. I am sure you will find many places for such a beauty! Happy stitching xoxo

    1. Thanks Hannapat. It will become a bit of a memory thing in the future I think, particularly if I bring it out each Autumn!

    1. Dear Mirjam
Thank you. I am hoping it will look good when it is all done. I am really enjoying this small project as I can really see the progress I am making (even if it is a little slower than I thought).

    1. Thank you, Anne. I hope it will look good when it is finished. I have found some rather nice autumnal coloured material in my stash, so am thinking that should work well.

  5. it is lovely and the colours work so well. How about some embellishments? seed beads or little teeny leaf buttons maybe??

    1. Thanks, BH. The embellishments is a good idea but I think I might save them for my next project - it has been languishing in my 'I don't now what to do with you' box for a couple of years so it's about time it had some TLC. Little beads might be just the thing it needs.

Thank you. You are really lucky to be having Spring - I love that time of year! I enjoy autumn too, with all the beautiful colours. I'm not so keen on snow and ice though! I am pleased with the way the tree is coming along.

Hello, welcome and thank you. The tree is coming on well and I am going to infill the trunk a bit, although that may take some experimentation so that it looks right. Wow - five cats - that is really impressive. I expect there is a hierarchy as to who is the boss - our three just about tolerate each other most of the time.
