Just a little light reading?

I love reading.  It is one of my favourite things to do.  I do have a Kindle, which is great for work, as it is light, portable and can store lots on it, but nothing can beat the excitement of a book, whether new or just new to me.  However, I have had to have a serious talk with myself.  I have got too many books which I haven't read.  So, after ordering four more over Christmas(!), I have decided not to order any more until I have read all of the ones in the photo above and possibly a few more as well (there are many more yet to be read).  I enjoy many types/genres of books and the selection above encompasses fiction, factual, biography, gardening, art, cats and social history, to name but a few.  Now, which one to start with?
I usually have a few on the go at once, but if one really grabs my interest then it gets my undivided attention.  The ones above have the potential for this, I think.  I bought 'Merry Hall' for my Mum for Christmas as she likes Beverley Nichols and I had a sneaky peek before wrapping it.  I loved it, so had to get a copy for myself and then, as it was a trilogy, what could I do but buy the others as well?  You see my problem...
So these are first on the list and I must admit that 'The Lost Pre-Raphaelite' may be the very first to be read,  as it has intrigued me.  I have been keeping a record of the books I have read over the last couple of years and it is fascinating to look back.  Last year, I read 86 books and many were on my kindle.  I wonder whether I'll read more or fewer in 2015?  I am reading the Mapp and Lucia series on my Kindle at the moment but I am ready to start a real book too, so off I go!

  1. Snap. I don't have a kindle. I have an e-reader on the PC but I MUCH prefer books. And have no will power. None. I am working through my unread tower (but keep adding to it too).
Always nice to come across another bookaholic.
I have several of the Mapp and Lucia novels - and reread them, laughing, most years.

    1. Thanks, EC. I had a look around in my bedroom at all the teetering piles of books and discovered at least another twenty titles which I haven't read! I think this year might be taken care of! I like my Kindle, as I say, it is great for work and it doesn't get all dog eared being lugged about in my bag, but it doesn't come close to the tactile and wonderful experience that is reading a real book! I am enjoying Mapp and Lucia and all their machinations in Tilling and Riseholme.
      Best wishes and happy reading!

  2. I loved watching Mapp and Lucia at Christmas and would love to know what you think of the book when you are finished, and also the Nichols books as well. I hope that you enjoy them, like me, you have a lot of reading to do this year! xx

    1. Thanks, Amy. I'll let you know what I think of the books you mentioned. I loved the Nichols' trilogy about his cottage in Glatton, so I have high hopes of this trilogy too. I do indeed have a lot of reading this year, and this is only a proportion of the book yet to be read!

  3. Like you, I have an eclectic taste in books, have piles of unread examples and piles of re-read many times, one of which is in your first picture, 'Colour'.

I have a Kindle but I seem unable to retain what I have read on it, the moment a book is finished, it is expunged from my mind which I why I prefer a real book in my hands.

    1. Thanks, Toffeeapple. I bought the 'Colour' book because it sounded so interesting, but then it got shoved onto a pile and forgotten about! I think I may need to be in a suitably intellectual frame of mind to read it though. I will always prefer a real book, no contest!

    1. Thanks, Twiggy. The books are very much like the dramatisation on over Christmas, but the stories were a little muddled together for the TV version. However, it doesn't detract from the books at all and I am enjoying becoming acquainted (from a safe distance) with the Tilling and Riseholme inhabitants. I LOVE books too!
