End of June

(collage created using picmonkey)
As we near the end of June (this year is going much too quickly), it is a good time to look at roses. June has been good to them this year, despite the baking heat last week and then the heavy rain over the last few days.  I love roses and here are just a few:
top row, left to right: Chandos Beauty, Ferdinand Pichard, New Dawn
middle row, left to right: For Your Eyes Only, The Pilgrim, Eyes forYou
bottom row, left to right, Gertrude Jekyll, Madame Hardy, Rosa Mundi
I do have some deeper pink/red roses too, but haven't taken any photos of them yet, although I probably will.

  1. One of our roses hasn't done very well this year, the one I planted for our Fred called Remember. I am not very good at pruning and obviously have messed it up.

    1. Thanks, Briony. Roses are quite forgiving, so don't worry about the pruning (studies have been done where roses have thrived after being pruned with hedge trimmers!) Perhaps it just needs some food and a nice manure mulch... Some of my roses seem to do better than others, so it could be something to do with the variety.

  2. Just beautiful. Thank you so much. Our roses are a long way off, and it is good to see yours.

    1. Thanks, EC. I think roses are one of my favourites (although that list seems to get longer by the day!) I do like a scented rose best though, so try to always buy one with a scent. I also try to get repeat flowering ones too, just to prolong the joy.
I am sure you'll enjoy your roses when they are out.

    1. Thanks, Cheryl. My garden is small and crammed with plants (too many, Chris says) but it bursts into life in June with all the roses. Many of them are in pots. I used to have all pink roses, not by design, it just worked out like that, but I have been consciously trying to introduce other colours over the last few years. I would love to have a bit more space for a few more though...
