Enjoying flowers both inside and outside

Last month, I was given these cream roses by a friend and they lasted really well.  I trimmed the stems and changed the water and they lasted for two weeks.
Outside, the run of a few days of sunny and warm weather have brought plants on really well. It's nearly the vernal equinox too, so the lengthening daylight is also a signal to grow.  Primroses are out, both the native ones and...
others which have self seeded under the patio table, but as they are so pretty, I haven't had the heart to dig them up and move them.
Muscari (grape hyacinth) flowering in a bowl on the patio.
Some different varieties of grape hyacinth in a pot.
Scilla going over a bit, but still a lovely sky blue.
Camellia St Ewe with its bright pink flowers and egg yolk yellow centres.
Tulips are also in bud in the border.  I did plant some in pots too, but they are not looking too good.  I think they have got too wet over the winter, so may have rotted. We'll see whether I get anything at all.  However, there will be lots of other plants to enjoy, so I shall focus on them instead.

  1. Hi Ellie ... all your flowers look so pretty. I do find if you keep changing the water in vases that the flowers do last longer too. Those roses are just gorgeous. I was just thinking yesterday about getting some new tulip bulbs as mine seem to do well the first year & then not so much after that. Enjoy this pretty time of year Ellie. xx

    1. Thanks, Julie. The roses lasted so well and were so pretty. Tulips are usually best treated as an annual, although there are some that are 'perennial' and will last longer, although flowering does diminish even with them. I am not sure what I will get from my bulbs this year - they are not looking very promising. However, there will be lots of other things to enjoy and the tulips in the borders seem to be doing OK.

  2. I like to have flowers in and out too, though I never cut the ones in the garden to bring indoors, I always buy indoor flowers. Your roses are beautiful, I think white is so understated and elegant. I'm waiting for my tulips to flower, I'm in two minds about mine too, we'll both have to wait and see what happens.

    1. Thanks, Jo. I sometimes cut some of my roses later in the year to enjoy the scent, but only when there are lots of buds to come. The roses were really elegant and lasted so well. I am not feeling very positive about my new tulips - it could be they were too dry last year when they were in the bulb fields, or too wet over this winter, so have rotted. Definitely wait and see!

  3. I've never had success with tulips - my garden is too shady, but primroses, muscari, snowdrops and tete a tete daffodils seem to thrive - this lovely weather seems to have given them all a boost :)

    1. Thanks, kjsutcliffe. I love to see all the spring flowers especially when they have enjoyed a it of sunshine! It looks like the Spring weather will continue into this week, so hopefully I will get out in the garden.

    1. Thanks, Daisy Debs. They are such undemanding plants with lovely little flowers and good for early pollinators too. There seem to be lots more varieties available so I often get a 'mixed' collection. I do like Muscari Latifolium with its ombre colours.
