Tulips with surprises

As we are having some sunny weather today (following several days of showers, hail and wind) I thought I would celebrate with tulip photos.  Above are 'Triumph' which I photographed a week or so ago - they do add lovely bright colours to the garden.
These were supposed to be 'Peach Blossom' which was a frilly pink double tulip.  Hmm, they don't look very pink to me, more like red and cream.  Still, even though the variety is a surprise, they are still really lovely.
A close up of one of the mystery strawberry and cream tulips.
Here are 'Triumph' again, without the white flower, but with the apricot and burgundy flowers taking centre spot.
The burgundy flower with the sun highlighting the tips of the petals.
I also have some 'Carnaval de Nice' tulips on the way, but they are still small and green at the moment.  I shall just have to cope with delayed gratification for them, but they are something to look forward to. I think I need to have more pots/tubs of tulips next year...

  2. Thank you so much! I do like taking photos, but have to give the camera most of the credit (all I do is choose the view and press the button). Your April blues photos are gorgeous, by the way.
I like the mystery tulips too and I wonder what variety they are?

  3. I was surprised a couple of days ago to discover that a bunch of tulip bulbs I'd planted in the back of the garden had mixed types/colours. It looks really nice!
    These are beautiful!!
Today at Pocket Cultures they'll be posting an article I wrote about the tulip craze here in the NL. I'll give you the link later if you're interested!

  4. Dear Aledys
Thank you for your comment. I really enjoy gardening surprises too.
I would love to read your article about the tulip craze - it sounds really interesting.
A blog I follow (Yarnstorm) has just featured masses of tulips and a trip to the Keukenhof gardens too, which look amazing. One day, I shall have to visit...
    Keep enjoying your tulips!
    Best wishes

Yes, Keukenhof is an incredible place. Actually, the biggest cultivated area is close to where I live. This week and the next are probably the best to see the tulips.
Do come and visit some day!
    Regards,
    A.
