Stitching Sundays 10

Although Chrissie isn't writing a specific post for Stitching Sundays, I am continuing, as I am finding it a great way to actually start and finish projects.
I took the majority advice over whether to add stitching to the leaves on the felt piece so here are a few close ups.  I like the way that the line of stitching has made the leaves look 'puffier'.
I chose colours which would show up against the leaves, without being too dominant.
 I think it looks good.
So here is the finished piece.  I am still undecided about what to do with it.  If it is going to be the centre panel of a cushion, I need to find a wool blanket I can cut up, or make some large pieces of felt.  I shall check our blanket situation first...
Although I haven't totally finished this project, I have got the next one ready.
I'm going to make winter bunting using the materials above, which I really like (particularly the two seed head patterns).  The two plain fabrics on the right are going to have a snowflake embroidered on them and then they will all be made into bunting with dark grey bias binding.  Once it is finished, I will then have seasonal bunting for the whole year.

  1. The leaves are beautiful! You must be so pleased...it might look lovely as a wall hanging, attached to two branches on top and bottom, hung by twine...until you find the right fabric for the cushion! Please link up to my blog, I've left the Stitching Sundays link on because I really do plan to get back to it when life calms down! Cxxx

    1. Dear Chrissie
Thank you. I am really pleased with it. It would look good as a wall hanging. I have linked up to your blog and am looking forward to seeing your projects, once you have time to get back to them. Life does have a habit of getting in the way, sometimes!
      Best wishes

    1. Thanks, Gilly. I am so pleased that I have finally got round to making this piece, after looking at it for a year! I really enjoy making bunting too, and have gone a bit bunting mad this year as it is quite a quick project to make.
Hope your week goes well too.

  3. Excellent decision Ellie, it looks fantastic and although to me it already looks like a cushion, I also think a wall-hanging would perhaps be wiser with my thoughts on preservation for the future. I can hardly wait to see your winter bunting, how exciting with that gorgeous variety of fabrics and textures. You are a very clever girl Ellie, and I take my hat off to you! Hugs and very best wishes, Joy xo

    1. Thanks, Joy. I'll do a bit of thinking about how to use the felt piece. I am already looking forward to the bunting making, having made 5 different sorts so far over the last year - in fact, if you stand still too long in this house, you might find yourself covered in bunting too! Chris suggested making tiny bunting for the seasonal tree, this morning, so it looks like the bunting craze will be continuing...
Best wishes and have a good week.

    1. Thanks, Mirjam. I am really looking forward to using those fabrics and had great fun finding them. I also have some ideas in my head on mixed media projects, incorporating my various interests and hobbies - polymer clay, felt making, jewellery making, sewing, embroidery, painting... I think it will be a lot of fun.

You're right, felt is such a versatile material and I really enjoying stitching into it. It is even better when I can use felt that I have made myself! I have recently got the book 'Felt Sew Good', which has some lovely ideas (I particularly like the scalloped cushion which appears on the front) and although the author uses commercially made felt, I could definitely adapt some of the ideas for my own felt.
If you do use felt in projects, do post about them, won't you?

I am delighted with how this turned out. I shall take some time to decide what it is to be and get on with my bunting next.
You're very welcome about the comment and thank you for making me think - it is so easy to take simple things for granted and it is good to consider how lucky we are and be thankful for what we have.
Hope all is well with you.

  7. It looks great with the stitching. There's nothing wrong with starting another project before the first is finished!

    1. Thanks, Wendy. I'm really pleased with the way it turned out. I usually have several projects on the go and loads more in my head at any one time, so I am enjoying being able to finish them, or nearly finish them!
