Here we are again, another Stitching Sunday and Chrissie, who started this, is back, so I shall be linking in.
I had a very serendipitous trip to the local charity shop yesterday as I found these embroidery cottons there, just begging me to take them home and use them in a project. I knew just the thing (with the exception of the purple/pink skeins) as the colours would be perfect for the grasses in my project.
Here's the progress for this week - you probably can't see it, so here's a close up...
I have started adding the grass, but this is just the start as I am intending to have loads in greens, browns, beiges, straw colour all over the foreground and middle too. I just need to keep going...
Ellie, that is lovely. So pretty.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Anne. At the moment, it is actually looking like the image I had in my head. I wasn't sure it ever would, so I am thrilled!

This is an absolute work of art! I am just loving watching your project take shape, the layers of stitches building up the effect of wild flowers...truly beautiful! Chrissie x
ReplyDeleteThanks Chrissie. I think your Stitching Sundays may have created an embroidery monster (but in a good way)! Even though I am not using many different stitches, I am really enjoying building up the layers and textures. Just think, if you hadn't started Stitching Sundays, this would probably not have happened!

I am absolutely blown away by the beauty of this piece materialising from a few expertly chosen (plus well found) threads, worked so deftly by your very capable and talented hands Ellie! Such a delight and thank you for allowing us another little peep at it!
ReplyDeleteWishing you the very best, Joy x
Thanks, Joy. You are always so encouraging! I am definitely on the home stretch now, but taking my time and doing a little when I feel like it is definitely the way to go for me.

So Beautiful Ellie! And so nice to find all those pretty colours in the charity shop...
ReplyDeleteLove from Mirjam.
Thanks, Mirjam. It was lovely to find the embroidery cottons and they were just the most perfect colours for this project. I spent a happy time yesterday winding some of them onto holders, ready to be used.

This is going to need one super duper frame and centre stage on the wall somewhere. It really is a work of art, I am pretty speechless with what you have achieved. I am so excited to getting back to doing a little stitching, all within good time. I really hope you have a wonderful year this year and I look forward to sharing bits of your journey with you xoxo
ReplyDeleteThanks, Hannapat. Even my husband Chris asked me if I would get it framed, so I think he likes it too! I am really pleased with it so far - it is a real labour of love but is gradually taking shape. I hope you will be able to continue your crafts this year (health and time permitting) and that 2014 will be a good year for you too.

I love the colours in this piece. I do like muted shades but always seem to end up doing bright colours myself.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the end result

Thanks, Briony. I love bright colours too, but as this piece is based on a photograph, I had to tone things down a bit. I am really enjoying building the image up.

Ellie that is so beautiful, it's just stunning your one talented lady
ReplyDeleteClare xx
Thanks, Clare. I am really enjoying the embroidery, despite only using a limited selection of stitches. It is definitely the most detailed embroidery I have ever tried, so it is an exciting process for me watching it grow and develop.

I agree with Hannapat above, this is a work of art. The thought you are putting into each decision for colour and stitch really works, and you can see the layers slowly build up. x
ReplyDeleteThanks, Gillian. It is gradually progressing and I am really pleased as it does resemble the idea I had in my head (which is always encouraging!) I think I'll have to find a suitable place to display it , once it is done!
