Little things making me happy...

With all the horrible things going on in the world, it is even more important to enjoy the little things. Things like the beautiful autumn colours of the leaves...
...here a hydrangea...
...and a blueberry.
Magnolia Susan against blue sky (when there has been some)...
these leaves are now on the ground.
Hydrangea flowers still with colour...
Rose William Shakespeare 2000 flowering...
...and a splash of fuchsia pink from the asters.
They look much more bedraggled now.
Lovely delicate pink skies...
 ...echoing the New Dawn roses.
 Buttery yellow Ginkgo leaves.
Inside the house, we have new tiles for the splashback behind the sink.  It's still a work in progress, but it is progressing.  I love the colours of these tiles...
...and the iridescence.  They make me smile every time I see them.
Finally, today's lunch - it is raining yet again, so what better to cheer up the day than a plate of beans on toast?  (These are Heinz, no added sugar ones as I find the original Heinz beans too sweet now.)  Little things that are making me happy - and don't we all need them?

  2. The little things are HUGE in my life. I often rely on them.
I have always found beans (and canned spaghetti) too sweet. I may have to see whether we have the sugar free variety.

    1. Thanks, EC. I agree. I don't think the beans are sugar free, they are just reduced sugar. Having got used to them, I can't eat the original ones now - way too sweet for me (and I have a really sweet tooth!)

  3. I agree that we all need some more cheer in our lives. The papers and tv are full of doom and gloom and we both get fed up with it. I don't know if its because we are old but things didn't seem so gloomy in the past.

    1. Thanks, Briony. I am trying not to watch the news - only the headlines - because it makes me so depressed. I think it has something to do with the immediacy of the news now - every little thing can be reported straightaway and it is a constant bombardment of horrible things going on around the world. We all need to celebrate and treasure the small things that make us happy.

  4. You are spot on - take pleasure in all the small lovely things.

Our blueberry leaves are completely red now - fabulous colour, looks like yours are a little later. Really love your tiles :-)

    1. Thanks, Jayne. After a couple of frosty nights, I think the blueberries will be changing more quickly now. I'll have to check.
I love the tiles too - Chris did a great job choosing them and said he knew I would like them.

  5. We tend to forget the little things that make us smile, I can´t be doing with the news etc, dramatised reporting that I can´t do anything about anyway. Keep my energy for nicer things. Love you flowers, super splash of colour in the garden xcx

    1. Thanks, Chrissie. I feel it is more important than ever to take time to appreciate those little things. They are what keep us all going, aren't they?

  6. Beans on toast, I've never heard of that. I only buy beans once or twice a year if I'm making baked beans for an outing. Your flowers are still quite pretty, none left here. I like the colors in fall, but they're too short lived and what comes after.....argh, and we're almost at the argh part here already. The rain this past wkend and wind pretty much took down all the color we did have.

    1. Thanks, Sandy. Beans on toast is a classic snack/meal here in the UK. They are even running adverts on TV about beans on toast! There is still a bit of colour in the garden although we have had a lot of rain and they have taken a beating. I am not that fond of winter and our winters are not as bad as in other parts of the world.
