Roses, roses, roses

The roses have enjoyed the recent rain we had (and so have the rest of the plants too).  Here's a snapshot of some of the different plants I have.
Top row, left to right: Charles de Mills, Rosa Mundi, Blush Noisette
Middle row, left to right: Cottage Rose, The Pilgrim, Olivia Rose Austin
Bottom row, left to right: Winchester Cathedral, Eyes for You, Ferdinand Pichard
Here are a few more, top left going clockwise: For Your Eyes Only, Gertrude Jekyll,  Mary Rose, Geoff Hamilton.
Since I took these photos, we have had some rain which has battered the blooms a bit.  I went out and deadheaded yesterday and am looking forward to seeing the next flush of flowers.

  2. I just love the roses, I look forward each year to seeing the two that I planted in memory of Kitty and Fred and they never disappoint me. The best rose I have in my tiny garden is the yellow one from the £1 shop, it is gorgeous and produces loads of blooms right to the end of summer, thus proving that you don't need to spend a fortune on them.

    1. Thanks, Briony. Sometimes it's not about how much you spend - it's the quality of the rose. I have had some which were a reasonable price and have done beautifully, then other expensive ones haven't been good at all.
When they are good quality roses and happy where they are planted, you can't beat them!

  3. You have some absolute beauties there. I am sure your garden smells delightful. I do love a rose (but they have to be scented to get the highest accolade).

    1. Thanks, EC. I agree wholeheartedly about the fragrance. Ferdinand Pichard and Gertrude Jekyll are my most scented and they do scent the areas they are in beautifully. Some of the others have a slight scent and you have to bury your nose in the flower to smell it, but they must all have some scent to have a place with me!

  4. So many wonderful roses! I have never tried to grow them, I don't have a great deal of success with flowering plants. You seem be far more successful than me!

    1. Thanks, sustainablemum. Your garden is so pretty as it is. I grew up in gardens with roses, so it was important to me to have them in my own garden. A lot of mine are grown in large tubs and some do better than others. They get fed twice a year and watered when they need it. The ones in the borders get a mulch once a year and don't get extra water.
My favourites (don't tell the others) are Gertrude Jekyll and Ferdinand Pichard for their scent, with Olivia Rose Austin for her flower shape. Blush Noisette is a lovely climber too...

  5. How do you find the space? Is your garden a magical space that expands and expands? The roses are so beautiful...they really show what a gifted gardener you are!

    1. Thanks, Maria. No, sadly my garden doesn't expand - I wish! I just keep shoe-horning plants in until I run out of space, which isn't too far away now. The roses are lovely plants and I can't take that much credit - I just feed them and water the ones in pots and nature does the rest!
