Even though we are having lovely sunny days, the nights are cold, with a bit of frost sometimes. However, this is not stopping the garden from celebrating Spring.
The tulips in the border are flowering - above is Ronaldo.
Clematis is in bud.
Daffodils are still blooming. This one is Narcissus Triandrus.
My favourite tulips, Ballerina, are opening out in the sunshine.
They are beautifully scented and such a joy!
Here is a pot of Tulip Brown Sugar, my second favourite.

The ever reliable Lathyrus Vernus, in pots, in shade, but providing a lovely splash of colour.

Finally, the cheerful flowers of a saxifrage which is a new plant and needs to be potted into a bigger pot. I think the garden is enjoying the sunshine, just like we are.
Amazingly rich colours! Nothing can beat nature's array of colours,such a delight to see. My mother loved roses and clematis. I used to think as a child the clematis flowers were fairies and that they woke up at night and became real fairies then. :-) keep well Amanda x

It's lovely to have so much colour back in the garden again, it's a wonderful time of year with so many spring bulbs blooming. I do like those pale yellow daffs.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jo. It's my favourite time of year (up until June) as everything looks so fresh. The pale yellow daffs were an impulse buy for Wilkos last Autumn, but they have been in flower for a while now so were a good purchase. If you like the white/pale daffs, 'Thalia' is a really white daff and in the same family as those above. I may have to get some this Autumn, I think.

Thanks, EC. It really is - always something new to see and enjoy. The garden seems to change daily in Spring. I think a lunch break outside is on the cards today - something to look forward to.

Hello Ellie, Ronaldo tulip is a reet 'ansome lad isn't he! And those beautiful ballerinas are dancing away. I keep on meaning to get a clematis but I get confused by the choice. There's a national collection just up the road from me apparently for Clematis viticella. Have a lovely weekend. Lulu x

DeleteWhen do you want your clematis to flower and how much work do you want to do with pruning? That will dictate which would suit you best. The alpinas and macropetalas are Spring flowering and don't need pruning, the viticellas flower after July and just need a haircut each year down to a strong pair of buds (about 15-30 cm) in February. (They are the ones I have in my garden).

Thanks Ellie. Maybe I'll plan a trip to the Clematis viticella place (Roseland House) around July so I can see them in full bloom and pick my favourite (although I do also like the idea of not having to prune the spring ones!) x

Happy Spring! Your flowers are lovely, I'm so jealous. Are Daffodils are gone and nothing else has yet sprung up. Clematis don't bloom here until late summer. Your tulips are awesome. I really need to plant some. Next up for me will be my purple Iris. They are one of my favorites, but it will be awhile yet.

Thanks, Sandy. I am sure you'll really enjoy your tulips when you get them. The clematis here are the alpina varieties which flower in Spring. I do have others that will flower in summer. I really enjoy seeing the Spring flowers. I'm jealous of your purple irises - I have tried growing them but they just don't like my garden!
