Creating collage papers and more stamps

Recently, I was looking at some printed rice papers for collage and was tempted to make a purchase, when I had a revelation. I had tissue paper, acrylic paint, stamps and ink, so why on earth didn't I create my own papers?  I had a happy hour or so creating these, using just black and white acrylic paint, which I dry brushed onto the tissue paper.  I found I had a lot of stamps (no surprise there!) which would work really well to give that grungy look I liked.  These included circle shapes, patterns, text, splodges and splats.
So, I now have four papers to rip up and use in collage projects and they didn't cost me anything (except for the original supplies, which I already had).  I foresee more variations on a theme to come...
I have also been carving my own stamps again, from pencil erasers.  The black images are the most recent ones I have made and I used this 'mop up' sheet to practise applying different watercolour pens and pencils to the stamp to get a multicoloured image too.  I found that the distress inks or Zig watercolour pens gave me the best results.  I think I may well be making more stamps like this over this year.

  2. I love creating these types of papers out of deli sheets too. The grandgirls and I made some neat ones "sopping up" the remnant of a paint pouring project we did. Please show us how you use these gorgeous tissue sheets, Ellie. I can't wait to see. ~Andrea xoxo

    1. Thanks, Andrea. I am thinking of using them in one of my art journals and also in a junk journal. I just have to decide on the type of project I want to do! Decision, decisions!

  3. What a fun you had making your own paper to use in up and coming projects. You are so creative. And then making your own stamps! Do you use those big square erasers? When I think of pencil erasers, I think of the little ones on the end of a pencil and wouldn't think you could use those?

    1. Thanks, Sandy. It was a lot of fun! Yes, I have used the larger erasers, but I also have the smaller rectangle ones too. I haven't tried the ones on the ends of pencils yet, but I think I have a book where someone has done just that! I think they need to be very simple shapes.

  4. Wow Ellie they are fabulous! They look so good, really looking forward to seeing what you do with you homemade paper.

It is so easy to forget what we have in the house isn't it, it is all to easy to go online and buy things which then get delivered that it become the default sometime doesn't it.

    1. Thanks, sustainablemum. I haven't quite decided what I shall use them for yet, but I am sure they'll come into their ow at some point! I am trying to make better use of what I have - I am very lucky to have a lot of art and craft supplies, so I need to use them!

  5. I always enjoy seeing what you've been up to Ellie. The prints are beautiful! Making stamps sounds like great fun. I thought the 'grungy' black and white one looked very mystical. It would be great to wrap a special present with. We make a lot of our own wrapping, as I am too stingy to buy it! ;) x

    1. Thanks, Lulu. I really enjoy stamping and printing, so making the paper was perfect. I tend to use brown paper to wrap presents in, but that looks great when it has been stamped too!
