A walk round the City (part one)

I was watching an art journal workshop the other day and the teacher said that they made their own collage papers from photographs they took in their home town of things like wires, architecture etc.  This prompted me to take a walk around the city and look for interesting patterns, architecture or anything which caught my eye.  I thought I would share some of the photos I took.

This is just outside in the street. I like all the lines.
Here it is in black and white. I can also crop the images further if I want just a small part of the image.
The decorated arch from a medieval building on the High Street.
Lovely statues on an arch in the High Street.
I think they represent the Annunciation.
Looking up is important and I noticed the columns on the window surround.
Another doorway on an ancient building.
Looking down resulted in some interesting patterns too.
I like the different patterns made by the different materials.
A very beautiful timber framed building.
The Cathedral to finish this part.  The front has been cleaned over the last few years and it does look very beautiful in the honey-coloured stone. There are patterns galore here!
The rest of the walk to follow in the next post.

  1. You should be able to find lots of beautiful things to photograph in your wonderful city. Having only visited for the first time recently, we're wondering why we haven't visited before, we'll definitely be back. Isn't it fascinating how a photo can change so drastically when it's changed from colour to black and white. Thank you for your comprehensive answer to the question I posed on your last post, it's interesting to hear how you choose your roses.

    1. Thanks, Jo. It was good to look at the city with different eyes - I take it all for granted much of the time and more often than not, don't look up or down too much! I think the photos will work really well in black and white and I may play around with the contrast etc. (My answer about the roses turned into a bit of an essay!)

    1. Thanks Julie. I live in Lincoln, which is towards the eastern side of England. There are some beautiful buildings here which I don't appreciate as much as I should!

    1. Thanks, Amalia. It was so interesting to look with 'fresh eyes' at buildings I take for granted most of the time!

  4. You got some interesting photo's. Can't say the wires do much for me, but the door, the arch etc all very very cool. I love older buildings. So much more to see than modern buildings. I think most modern buildings look ugly. I may try to see different things in my city the next time I go for a walk.

    1. Thanks, Sandy. It's a good exercise - to look at things with a different viewpoint. We are lucky that the city has so many interesting old buildings here. I agree that a lot of modern architecture seems to have very little merit!
