Sabotaged by the cat and a summery dessert

I finally got around to cutting out a pair of cropped trousers from some material that I bought about a year ago!  It was all going well until I heard the cat flap go and Scruffy strolled in and promptly laid all over my working space.  I say 'working space' but it was the sitting room floor, as I needed a good space to lay the fabric out on.
Scruffy was in no rush to move...
...at all.  Why do cats always put themselves right into the middle whatever you are trying to do?  I suppose it is all down to attention, or food.  I made sure he didn't get on any pins.  He did eventually move and I was able to finish the cutting out.
On a totally unconnected theme, I made use of some of the blueberries this year.  I am not really fond of them raw as I always think they should be lovely and juicy and they aren't.  However, they do make a very nice sauce to have with Eton mess - crumbled meringue nest and Quark (soft cheese, fat free, high protein) with a bit of fat free natural yogurt to thin the Quark a bit and the blueberry sauce swirled through. It was a really lovely summery dessert.

  1. It's not just cats, dogs are exactly the same. Archie always makes a beeline for anything that's spread out on the floor. I love blueberries in muffins or pancakes, the tang is a like a little explosion when mixed with something sweet, though the birds tend to get lots of blueberries off my plants.

    1. Thanks, Jo. Animals seem to want to be in the middle of the action, don't they?! I like blueberries in cakes or muffins too - just not raw. For some reason (and I'm not complaining) the birds don't seem to focus on our blueberries, although on some of the plants, Blue Pearl in particular, the berries are well hidden.

  2. That desert looks delicious - and most appropriately it also looks like a lush rose.
I think that most cats (and certainly Jazz) believe that the world revolves around them, and that it is right and proper that they should be at the centre of the action.
Be thankful that Scrappy is better behaved than our late lamented Medlyn. I was working on a tapestry. Medlyn resented me paying it more attention than him. So he piddled on it. I was afraid to wash it for fear of the pattern disappearing so completed a very smelly tapestry. As fast as I could. Which now (well washed) hangs on the wall.

    1. Thanks, EC. I hadn't thought about the dessert looking like a rose, but now I can see it does - how fortuitous!
Scruffy does resort to piddling on things to express his disgust if I haven't done something he wanted me to, or if I have told him off for something... just a way to tell me he isn't happy.
I'm glad that your tapestry survived!

    1. Thanks, Pam. Scruffy does like to be involved in what we are doing and usually manages to sit or lie in the most inconvenient places. The dessert was very scrumptious and I made enough sauce for us to enjoy it for three meals. I now need to make more sauce...

  4. I love the name of your cat! I am glad to hear that he didn't get any pins in him or destroy your sewing in any way.

Your dessert sounds delicious and looks so pretty too!

    1. Thanks, sustainablemum. Scruffy adopted us - he had obviously belonged to someone once, but decided to live with us. When he arrived, he had licked a lot of his fur (due to a skin problem which is kept in check with steroid jabs now) and he just looked scruffy, so the name stuck. He has been with us for at least ten years now. I have nearly finished sewing the trousers and no cat was harmed in their making!
The dessert is very delicious and quick to make.

  5. Awww Scruffy!!! He looks like he has a lovely tummy on him now, obvious signs of lots of love given to him. You always have the best ideas for dessert, I might have to try that one but not sure if Quark is available here.

    1. Thanks, Maria. He has been fighting again (we think he is being bullied by another cat as he isn't by nature an aggressive cat) and we have had to take him to the vet twice in the last couple of months for antibiotic jabs. The vet said he had put on weight! (I blame the steroid jabs).
I can't take credit for this particular dessert - it is a Slimming World one and is one of our favourites. You could try fat free natural or greek style yogurt instead of Quark, which would work well, I think.
