I ventured into the garden to see what was braving late December/early January weather and then got sidetracked so am posting this now. Above is one of the Nemesia Melody series...
...and here's another...
...and another. They are good value plants.
Hellebores were in flower. Here is Hello White Pearl.
While Hellebore Ericsmithii Winter Sunshine was just opening up. The hellebores in pots always seem to flower before the ones in the ground. There was a cyclamen coum and the start of some snowdrops.
Jasminium nudiflorum (winter flowering jasmine) was bringing its own sunshine to a dull corner.
Camellia Yoimachi flowers enticed me down to the bottom of the garden to look at them more closely. The ever faithful winter flowering honeysuckle was also in flower. Of course, a week or so after taking these photos, we had a week of frost and temperatures only just above freezing during the day. Everything was flattened by it, but has recovered.
No matter the time of the year I am glad that you also do garden walks - and are rewarded. Heart balm.
ReplyDeleteThanks, EC. I have a quick wander round the garden every day. Being a very small garden, it doesn't take long, but I do look forward to it, even in the not so good weather. I noticed a few snowdrops in flower yesterday, which I wasn't expecting yet, so that was lovely. Balm for the heart and soul indeed.

The garden is looking pretty despite it being winter where you are Ellie. The hellebores are one of my favorites & flower here for a very long time - I see mine are seeding in lots of places too. I hope you get some warmer weather soon. xx
ReplyDeleteThanks, Julie. As I have probably mentioned, I am trying to have things in flower every month of the year and I think I have managed it. I love my hellebores and bought another one recently. I think I need a white one to add to the collection though! I don't mind some frosty weather and do like the sunny days that brings, even if it is cold.

I'm soooooooo envious. All those beautiful flowers. At home right now it's 9 degrees with snow on the ground for about 10 days. It hasn't warmed up so none of the snow has melted. It will be quite some time before I can enjoy seeing flowers in the gardens. LOVE your photo's, they make me smile.

Thanks, Sandy. The positive thing about gardening is that you know the seasons will change and flowers will bloom again. I am always excited to see the snowdrops and hellebores. I'm glad you enjoy the photos.

It's good to have some colour in the garden through the winter months. I saw some snowdrops in bloom at the weekend, that definitely cheered me up, perhaps spring isn't all that far away now, I hope not.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jo. I have a couple of small clumps of snowdrops in flower which, as you say, is very cheering. The hellebores are doing a good job of keeping me cheerful too.
