Winter flowers

Although it is still quite early for a lot of plants to be flowering, there are plants to enjoy. Above is Hellebore Winter Ballet Lulu, recovered after having a snowy hat.
Here is a Hellebore Credale double with just one flower so far, but a beautiful looking pink picotee edge to the petals.
Hellebore Hello Ruby just starting to flower.
Hellebore Ice and Roses Red looking very glamorous.
Cyclamen coum with its silvery leaves and pink buds.
Snowdrops, which really do need dividing this year.  They used to have lots of flowers but these have dwindled so I really need to dig them up, divide and replant them, giving them more room.  Of course, the heat in Summer is not really to their liking, so that won't have helped.
Three more flowers.
Finally, Hellebore Ericsmithii Winter Sunshine, again flowering but perhaps not quite so happily as in previous years.  It may not have liked the heat either, but may need to be in a bigger pot now.  Lots for me to do when the weather is slightly less wet!

  1. I always think of you when I look at my hellebores now Ellie - as yours are always so beautiful & you have such a wonderful variety of them. That cyclamen looks most interesting too. Lots of prettiness despite it being winter where you live. xx

    1. Thanks, Julie. I see m to have a little hellebore 'collection' now - not sure how that happened! Cyclamen coum is a sweet little plant and flowers during winter. It's more robust cousin, cyclamen hederifolium, flowers in autumn and will out-compete coum, so they shouldn't be planted together. I only have cyclamen coum in this container and I hope it/ they will keep going in there.

  2. Your garden is certainly ahead of mine. I have one very small and obviously shy snowdrop just beginning to show, the hellebores are still fast asleep and not a cyclamen in sight!

    1. Thanks, kjsutcliffe. I have a small city garden with some sheltered areas, which helps the plants. The hellebores are in pots and seem to flower earlier than the ones in the border, which are not doing anything much at the moment.

  3. It's nice to see flowers blooming at this time of year, it really lifts the spirits. Of course, it won't be long now until the spring bulbs take over. We're hoping to visit Dunham Massey again to see the snowdrops there, it's nice to see them en masse, they really make a statement.

    1. Thanks, Jo. I am still working towards having something in flower every week of the year! I agree - seeing snowdrops en masse is a wonderful thing. Small clumps of them are pretty, but just not the same. I am hoping to have a trip to see snowdrops locally too.
