Mid April in the garden

Spring is certainly here and the garden has shifted up a gear.  Above is Erythronium Pagoda with a beautiful open flower.
The clematis plants on the arch are looking lovely too - alpina 'Frankie' and and alpina 'Blue Dancer'.
Tulips in the border...
...my favourite, Ballerina, with a fresh lemony scent.
Muscari or Grape Hyacinths always bring me a lot of joy.
These are the best tulips I bought last year, a variety called Finola. They have opened up more since I took this photo and there is one yellow one amongst the pink, but that makes me smile.
They are at the front of the house, so greet us as we come in - a very cheering sight!   The Choisya 'White Dazzler' is indeed dazzling - lots of flowers with a honey scent.
So pretty!

    1. Thanks, Poppypatchwork. Yes, there are tulips for every taste. I love seeing them and if they are scented too, that's a bonus!

  2. I think your garden looks wonderful all year round Ellie but especially so in Spring. I love that narrow shaped tulip & have not seen that before - very pretty. I have just given my choisya a good haircut as it needed it. Have a great weekend Ellie. xx

    1. Thanks, Julie. There is certainly a lot going on in the garden at this time of the year. I have planted some camassias in the north facing border and they are just flowering now, so I need to get some photos! I had to do something with them because they don't like being in pots for too long. I have more to rehome in the autumn but am not sure I will have enough space!
The narrow tulip is one from the lily flowered group. They are tall and elegant. My choisya may get a bit of a haircut once it has finished flowering (if I remember!)
      Have a lovely weekend too.

  4. You have a lot going on in your garden. I'm a convert to grape hyacinths, I've never really bothered with them before but I planted some bulbs last year and they've been wonderful this spring, I shall definitely grow more again next year. Some of my tulips haven't done as well as I'd hoped, the ones in the border have done much better than the ones in pots. Your clematis are looking glorious. I planted a couple last year, they didn't flower but they've put a lot of growth on this year so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

    1. Thanks, Jo. Yes, there is a lot going on at the moment. I do like the different varieties of grape hyacinths you can get now as well - it's not just that mid-blue variety, pretty though that is! My new tulips in pots have been disappointing this year (apart from Finola out at the front) with only 4 out of 24 actually flowering. Too dry last year in the bulb fields, too wet this winter in my garden or a disease, I'm not sure. The clematis plants work together really well and there is a climbing rose under there too as well as another clematis, Perle D'Azur, which both flower later in summer.
