My latest art obsession is with mark making. I love the activity of using simple materials to show 'I was here', creating patterns, printing with different objects, and generally losing myself in the process. I have found an artist who loves mark making, called Debasree Dey , who is based in India.
After seeing her name appear on several free courses which I had signed up to, I went to investigate further. She is also one of the teachers on the year long art journal course I do, so that is something to look forward to in 2027.
She has lots of interesting courses and I have somehow signed up to several, as they were all 50% off. She encourages the use of printer paper, junk paper etc. and also to 'use what you have', which also appealed. She has lots of free things too, including classes, although you do have to sign up to her newsletter, but it's worth it!
In fact, she has now got a mark making course called Marks that Soothe here so I expect that will be the next one for me to sign up to! One of the things she says is to make marks as though you are a child, no worry, no judgement, just enjoying the process - all right up my street.
These photos are all pages from an accordion journal class, which were created using a masterboard, cut into three strips and joined back together. I used lots of scraps of all sorts of papers and gel prints to collage for the base. I still need to add some extra bits and pieces to the pages, but I thoroughly enjoyed making it.
