Yes, it's Monday again and I'm late with my Stitching Sunday post. I have had a very productive stitching day and my embroidery is really taking shape now.
I have been adding lots of grasses all over the foreground and mid ground. Initially, there was a bit of a line at the bottom of the first layer of grasses I sewed, unintentional, but there all the same, so I tried to alter the way the grasses overlapped across the different layers and am much happier with the effect now.In the close up, you can see the way I am trying to overlap the grasses in order to have a more naturalistic look.
This is a section cut through, giving an idea of the background, mid ground and foreground working together. I still have a little more to do, I think, but now the challenge will be to know when it is finished and stop...
I didn't think it could get much prettier, but it did!
ReplyDeleteIt's soooo wonderful Ellie.... You can be very proud of yourself!
Love from Mirjam.
Thanks, Mirjam. It is the most complicated piece of embroidery I have ever attempted, but has come together without too much difficulty (just a bit of unpicking here and there when something didn't look right!)

Absolutely gorgeous embroidery Ellie - you are so talented! I love the way it almost looks as though one could walk into those grasses! E x
ReplyDeleteThanks, E. I have surprised myself with this piece as I didn't think I could do it (which is why it has taken 3 years to get round to it). I like the way it has evolved, with just some photos and a rough sketch to work from. I think this more 'organic' sort of embroidery is much more me than the 'copy a pattern' sort, much as I like looking at that type. Nearly finished now...

It looks great. I love the colours and textures xxxx
ReplyDeleteThanks, Melanie. Usually, I like much brighter colours, but the colours were dictated by the original photo. The French knots have been brilliant for adding texture and when you stitch onto felt, the felt 'puffs up' around the stitch, adding more texture of its own. Nearly there now...

This is an amazing piece! I know I say that every week, but I just admire this work so much! Thank you as always for sharing...cxxx
ReplyDeleteThanks, Chrissie. For a piece with, I think, three stitches in it (split stitch, straight stitch, French knots), I am really pleased with the way it is looking. I honestly didn't think I could do this! Stitching Sundays has been such a help to keep me going!

Dear Ellie,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the warm comfort with the loss of my father. Mine had Alzheimer as well. So we are kind of soul mates.
