,..this was the view over to the Poplar trees. A grey, rain laden sky behind, but beautiful sun in front, illuminating the trees and making them look fiery and amazing.
I love looking at these trees and seeing the seasons change their appearance. You wouldn't think we were in the middle of a city, would you?
Looking up again, this time into the flowers of an Erythronium 'Pagoda', with its lovely upswept petals.
Looking up again, into the bluest of blue Spring skies, with Magnolia Susan (who features a lot on my blog in April), with a lilac tree behind.
Another tub of tulips delighting me with their colour. This is Ronaldo, with Don Quichotte yet to flower. It is so hard to be patient!
Another view of the blue sky with the Magnolia and Lilac...just because they are pretty!
More tulips from the single mix. There are a couple of other types in the mix, but they aren't quite in flower.
Here is something I am really excited about. This is a Patio Peony, specially designed for pots, called 'Athens' and should have pink flowers. I bought it earlier in the year and have watched it gradually start to grow, but didn't really expect anything except leaves this year. As you can see, there are buds - I think there are four.
The plant has lovely glossy green leaves, and the promise of a beautiful flower. I have also got 'Madrid', a white flowered peony, which is just starting to unfurl its leaves, so has a way to go yet. Patience, patience!
LOVING your spring display. Peonys are something I haven't done well with. I am really looking forward to seeing your Patio version bloom.
ReplyDeleteThanks, EC. I used to have a large Sarah Bernhardt peony but after being lovely for a few years, it succumbed to a mystery disease. Since then, I have filled up the garden too much to have another large one, so when I found out about patio varieties, I was delighted and bought two. I'm really looking forward to seeing the flower too - I'll post a photo, of course!

Our magnolia tree is now dropping petals, it's a shame I love the flowers but we often get a second lot of flowers. The popular trees in first photos are stunning.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Marlene. I would love to have the space for another one - this one is in a large tub and seems to be fine, but really, it would probably like to be in the ground. It has a lovely lemony scent which wafts round the garden on a sunny day. The effect with the poplars was amazing and I was lucky enough to catch it before the light changed.

Wow Ellie the light on those poplars is luminous - especially against the grey sky. I love seeing everything start up again at this time of year - before you know it the garden will be stuffed to bursting with wonderful colour. I think your peony is going to be beautiful - how exciting seeing it open for the first time! Jane x
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jane. It was a really spectacular sight with the poplars. I am really hoping my peony proves to be beautiful and every morning, I am out checking it! (That's probably quite a sad thing to admit to!)

Wow, those peony buds look very promising! I didn't know they existed in a pot, great! Love from Mirjam.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mirjam. I am hoping to move them to more permanent pots once they have flowered. There is a whole range just for patio pots, all named after cities.
