Star plants in early May

Here's a round up of star plants at the moment.  Above is Magnolia Fairy Blush, which has a gentle lemony scent and gets a bit neglected by me, if I'm honest.  For most of the year, it has green leaves and is just a backdrop to other things, but then comes into its own for a couple of weeks in May.
Even in the bit of rain we had, the buds and flowers still looked beautiful.
They are have a delicate pink shade and are well named.
So pretty...
...and photogenic!
Tulip Danceline from last year and now in the border, doing a very good impression of a peony.
A pretty combination of tulip Ballerina and my new little apple tree.
The pink fringed tulip which has two flowers this year.  This is a mystery tulip but seems to keep coming back and very welcome it is too, with the splash of cerise.
Finally for now, Clematis Rosy Pagoda which flowered earlier but still delights with its fabulous seedheads.
A good value plant.  More star plants to come...

  1. All are absolutely stellar. And your photographs are excellent too. Many thanks.
I have given up on magnolias. The cockatoos delight in shredding them, and I have lost several and refuse to plant more. I love seeing other people's success stories though.

    1. Thanks, EC. I am usually envious of your birdlife, but not at the expense of magnolias! The sparrows, starlings and pigeons we get here don't seem interested in magnolias and long may that continue!

  2. So much colour and action already in your garden. You have clematis that has flowered?? Ours is just thinking about getting some leaves going... Thank goodness you take such beautiful photos and have such an amazing variety. I will live vicariously through you.

    1. Thanks, Maria. The clematis is an early flowering alpina variety. The summer flowering ones are not quite there yet, but are budding up. Feel free to keep living vicariously through this blog - roses will feature shortly and a couple are in flower now!

    1. Thanks, Sandy. I love May and June in the UK - lots of bright green and plants looking fresh. My roses are just starting to flower too, so the garden will gradually turn shades of pink. It is exciting waiting for flowers to bloom, isn't it?
