Index-Card-A-Day (ICAD) 2022 challenge - Week 1

The Index-Card-a-Day challenge is on again.  I have taken part for the last two years and have enjoyed creating a small piece of art every day during June and July.  There are daily prompts, but it is up to you whether to use them, or whether to go your own way.  There are also guides to materials you may like to use.  The challenge is run by Daisy Yellow Art.  Above from the top are Asterisk; Peony; Maze or Labyrinth; Key.
Above are Flamingo or Pink; Daydream and Root.  I often seem to be quite literal with my interpretation, but again, this is up to you.  The cards to work on are index cards or pieces of card 6x4 inches in size. So far I have used inks, watercolours, stamps, stencils, dies and images from the internet.  This challenge is also really good for making me use what I have.

I will post weekly so that there aren't too many posts to wade through.  How about joining in?  It's not too late!

  1. I always love to see your creations. Literal your interpretation may be - but it has your own creative stamp (pun intentional) added.

  2. You find absolutely the *neatest* things, Ellie!! These postcards are beautiful! Perhaps I might join in too. We'll see. I have so much work to catch up on around here, since doing the great minimalization project around here that I can't see through that, to actually sitting down to do some art. But I should make the time, shouldn't I. It would be good for my heart & soul both! ~Andrea xoxo

    1. Thanks, Andrea. Creative activities of any kind are good for the soul! The good thing about this challenge is that the cards are small so can be done quite quickly once you have the idea. I am sure you'll be able to have some 'me' time once all the sorting and selling is done.

    1. Thanks, sustainablemum. I enjoy this challenge as I like the smaller scale and speed of completion. I also enjoy the challenge of the prompts.

    1. Thanks, Sandy. It is fun and makes me use some of the stamps/dies/other craft materials I have got. The good thing is the size of of the cards - 6x4 inches means that one a day is do-able.

  6. Hello Ellie, those index card are so sweet! I'm especially loving the peonies, labyrinth and root ones. Will you box them up afterwards? I had a peek at the Daisy Yellow Art site and gushed at the tiny accordion book full of inky/ watercolour splatter. I look forward to seeing your next set of creations. Lulu xXx

    1. Thanks, Lulu. Yes, I have an adapted shoebox which serves as my ICAD storage. It is fun to look back at them and see what I did over the last two years.

  7. I always enjoy seeing what you come up with for the prompts. The maze one looks fun, that would tempt me to get my pen out, haha.

    1. Thanks, Jo. It's a challenge to use the prompts - sometimes it's easy, other times difficult. I manage to get there in the end though! The Labyrinth pattern (a labyrinth has one route through, a maze has several, I found out) is from a pattern of a turf 'maze' in a village called Wing, which is one we used to visit when I was little.
