I am not a particularly tech-savvy person but I do usually try to read instructions for a new item/appliance. Once I know how something works for me, such as the washing machine, I tend to keep using the same few settings. I seldom explore menus/settings on things. However, sometimes, this is not such a good thing. (Photo above is Salvia Cherry Lips.)
Recently my camera setting changed (due to me inadvertently pressing the wrong button - of course) and I was messing about with it, trying to put it back to the familiar. You may remember that I have said in the past that it is a good camera for daylight and it can take some lovely pictures; however, it is rubbish in low light, or with fireworks, or the moon etc. (Photo above is Salvia Peach Melba, bought earlier in the year as a plug plant).
Looking at the settings menu, I discovered that it has a multitude of settings for portraits, fireworks, low light conditions etc. that I have never seen or used. (This is probably due to the fact that I am a 'point and shoot' photographer and also that I have not downloaded the (no doubt) big instruction manual... ) (Photo shows my agapanthus Navy Blue with the shorter Flower of Love below.)
So, no more maligning my camera until I have tried these settings. I will report back in due course... (Photo is of Rose Olivia Rose Austin in her second flowering this summer).

Oh how I despise technology! Well, maybe "despise" is too harsh of a word but you get the idea. Buttons, settings, doing this & that....arrrggghhh! I admire your steadfastness in trying, Ellie. Your flowers are gorgeous!! Love, Andrea xoxo
ReplyDeleteThanks, Andrea. Technology can be a real help to us, but it can often cause great frustration! I will investigate my camera's settings when the opportunity arises, fireworks, moon shots etc. It can take some lovely photos though, despite the lack of skill from the photographer!

Loving your garden. I tend to use the same settings on things too - though I have explored some of my camera's settings.
ReplyDeleteThanks EC. The garden is looking very colourful despite the prolonged hot weather (for the UK) and we have had some much needed rain, so that has helped a lot. I am not the sort of person who presses buttons and ask 'what does this do?' as I am naturally cautious, but sometimes (with some things) it is useful to do just that!

Stunning garden photos Ellie - how I would love to walk around your garden, it always looks so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWell I am pleased to read that you are just like me when it comes to appliances etc ... those long manuals honestly do my head in. I use the same settings on washing machine too! My coffee maker needs descaling & figuring out those instructions is almost too much for me!! Have a lovely week Ellie. xx
Thanks, Julie. Walking round my garden wouldn't take you that long - it is small, but packed full of plants! Sometimes it would be nice to own something that didn't need a big instruction manual, wouldn't it?
DeleteHave a lovely week too.

Oh, I find instruction manuals tedious so I'm like you and tend to use things on the same settings rather than explore what else they can do. I went on a short photography course once, it was quite interesting but I can't remember a thing from it now, information tends to go in one ear and out the other as I get older. I always think your photos are wonderful, especially the ones you take of your flowers.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jo. Hopefully I will get to grips with the extra settings on the camera and I will post anything interesting. I can't really take credit for the photos as I usually just point and shoot, but the garden manages to provide some lovely photogenic plants to capture.
