Stitching Sundays 23

I have made a little progress with my winter decorations today, while listening to the radio and watching television (not all at the same time, I hasten to add!)
Here are my bird decorations made from my hand made felt and then embroidered with simple patterns. I really enjoyed making them as they were quick to make and I am really pleased with the finished decorations.
You can see I used a purple pen to draw a rough guide, but it didn't really like the felt much, so it was very much a guide.  It should fade in a day or so.  I used back stitch for this pattern and straight stitch to make the stars on the blue bird.  I have a couple more to make and some more snowflake decorations too.

  1. Ah I love these cute little birdies Ellie - you're such a clever girl, always something different to show us and always so well done. One of these days I may find time to give felting a try for you always make it look so wonderful and enticing! Thank you for sharing your little cuties! Wishing you the very best, hugs, Joy x

    1. Thanks, Joy. Making felt is very satisfying although it can feel like hard work sometimes if you use the wet-felting method! The end result justifies the physical labour though because no commercially produced felt beats the colours which you can layer up. The little birds turned out really well.

    1. Thanks, E. It is a lovely pattern that I am using - based on Christmas Decorations I think, but useful at any time of year! The embroidery is simple, but effective.

  6. I love the colours - very peaceful. It must be extra satisfying if you felted the fabric yourself too. Great job:)

    1. Thanks Jenn. It is very satisfying to think that I made the felt - I like to layer up colours so that they can be seen on the edge of the finished felt. These white ones have whites and greys in them and the blue ones are a variety of different shade of blue. I really enjoy the felt making process, although I haven't done any for quite a while; something I must remedy!

    1. Thanks Cathie. The colours work really well but the inspiration came from the lovely book I used for the pattern (it is featured in last week's post).
